Following the change in restrictions for the whole of Devon, from tier 2 to Tier 3, the committee has considered that, for the safety of our members, the club should be closed for shooting immediately, and until such time as we can be sure of members’ safety.
This decision was not taken lightly, as we have striven to keep the club open whenever possible over the course of this pandemic, But, several things have swayed us to make this decision.
· The general situation is getting worse.
· Exeter is once again becoming a hot spot.
· The new variant can spread quicker than authorities can react to warn us. There are a number of unknown factors with this variant and we don’t want to be the ones that find out what those factors are.
· We have had no Covid infections from the use of the club and we wish to maintain our 100% record. This has been due to your committee and, in particular, several members who have set up and maintained a Covid safe environment.
I hope you will agree that, although unwelcome, this decision is in everyone’s best interests to keep everyone safe at this stage of the pandemic.
Maybe the end is in sight with the vaccination roll out, but that will take a while to become sufficiently effective in the general population.
You can be assured that I, and the committee, will be reviewing our position regularly and will re-open as soon as we feel it is safe to do so.
I will also take this opportunity to wish you a Happy and Safe 2021.
Thank you as always for your forbearance under these trying times.
